SCOPE Defends its KES 21,000 Exchange Trip to Kisumu
A section of medical students have raised questions over the pricing structure of the upcoming “Local SCOPE: Twende Kisumu” exchange trip, scheduled for September 1–8, 2026.
The joint professional exchange and networking initiative—organized for Mount Kenya University (MKU) and Uzima University medical students—has drawn concern regarding its KES 21,000 fee and whether it is accessible for the average student budget.
mTV reached out to the event organizers to seek clarification on what the exchange entails and to address the financial concerns raised by students seeking transparency.
In response, the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) provided a detailed breakdown to justify the value and coverage included in the KES 21,000 fee. SCOPE explained that the rate is structured as a comprehensive, all-inclusive package designed to ensure participant comfort, convenience, and a rich experience throughout the eight-day trip.
Key inclusions cover:
Accommodation & Comfort: Non-sharing, fully furnished rooms equipped with amenities such as televisions, ensuring high standards of privacy and comfort.
Full Logistics & Transport: Inter-city transit to destinations outside Kisumu city, including trips to Kakamega, Bondo, and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum.
Excursions & Site Visits: Entry and access to major regional highlights, including a Takawiri Island tour, Kit Mikayi hike, Kisumu Impala Sanctuary, Dunga Hill Camp, and a Lake Victoria boat ride.
Hospitality & Recreation: Swimming access, lakefront resort visits, and self-service meal arrangements tailored for the duration of the stay.
Organizers noted that the package was assembled to offer maximal value and convenience for medical students before the start of the rigorous academic term, eliminating separate out-of-pocket expenses for housing, local travel, and recreational activities during the trip.
