Tomorrow, UON First-Years Choose Their Class Rep. Here’s Why It Matters.
Tomorrow, first-year MBChB students will elect their class representatives, right before classes start next week. It might look like a small formality, but it isn’t. The person elected will shape how the whole year goes for everyone in that class.
A class rep is the link between students and the administration, and between students and lecturers. They arrange lectures and follow up when a lecturer doesn’t show up or hasn’t sent notes. They collect and organize notes in a class drive so no one is left behind. They follow up on exam timing, format, and results. When something is wrong, they raise it and push until it’s addressed. They make sure students are heard.
In short, the class rep runs the day-to-day business of the class. It is not an easy job. It takes sacrifice, dedication, and resilience, and it comes with real challenges: chasing people who don’t respond, dealing with frustrated classmates, and sometimes getting blamed for things outside their control.
This is why the choice matters. A weak class rep means poor communication, missed notes, and unresolved problems. A good one keeps the class organized and makes sure students’ concerns get addressed.
So before voting tomorrow, think carefully. Who has shown they can actually do this work? Being friendly or popular is not the same as being reliable. Choose based on who will do the job, not just who you like.

True, and that’s why we are backing up on Joy Nkatha.
The core reason being realible and efficient communication.
